This long-running hit on the fringe of Hillcrest offers a romantic, low-key dining room and a stylish, sheltered patio that overlooks busy 5th Avenue. The lengthy menu zeroes in on elegant, fully flavored Sicilian specialties—it may be the only place in San Diego offering an insalata di citrioli, a salad of cucumbers, corn, tomatoes, and Gorgonzola. The pasta dishes include familiar favorites, but classically Sicilian is the rigatoni in an aromatic sausage-caper sauce; the stuffed, breaded-veal spiedini (on skewers) also is superb.
