Outdoor tables on a narrow sidewalk and inexpensive prices make this and the neighboring Saffron Thai Grilled Chicken takeout worth a short detour from Old Town. The simple menu has spicy and mild noodle soups; stir-fried noodles with chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp; and a couple of uncommon Vietnamese and Thai-Indian noodle dishes bathed with aromatic sauces: the spicy "Eslam" dish is made of wide rice noodles stir-fried with chicken or tofu in a sauce of turmeric, lemongrass,
and chiles. The Saffron Noodles restaurant has a minimalist look but is sunny and comfortable. Go next door for to-go boxes of the namesake grilled half chicken served with jasmine rice, tart-sweet cucumber salad, and savory house-made peanut sauce.

We always go to Saffron when we visit San Diego. Good chicken take out and very good Thai food at very reasonable prices. Look for the large number of Chilhuly glass sculptures around the place. Can eat indoors or out.

Great place. We dine out a lot, and end up at Saffron at least once a month. Love the curries, the soups, the chicken. Very casual atmosphere. Be careful of the dishes with multiple peppers (very hot).
