$$$-$$$$, Steak, Downtown
Fodor's Review:
San Diego's premier homegrown steak house also ranks as the longest running of the pack, not least because it has the luxurious look and mood of an old-fashioned Eastern men's club. The cuisine is excellent: open with the signature black bean soup with Madeira. Continue with the tender, expertly roasted prime rib, superb veal's liver with onions and bacon, broiled free-range chicken, fresh seafood, or the amazingly succulent pork chops, all served in vast portions with plenty of hot-from-the-oven cornsticks on the side. The prime steaks sizzle, as does the bill. The well-chosen wine list has pricey but superior selections.
