Fodor's Review

Tiki torches light the way through grounds thick with tropical foliage to the six two-story buildings and the 14-story high-rise on Mission Bay. The South Seas theme continues in the room design. Offering Lomi Lomi massages, ginger-root detox wraps, and Tahitian body scrubs, the spa has a Zen motif accented by beautiful mosaics and Buddhas. The fitness center looks out on the bay; kayaks and pedal boats are available for rental. Among the resort's many summertime activities

are Hawaiian luaus and free bay cruises aboard the Bahia Belle stern-wheeler. The Atoll Restaurant is a favorite for Sunday brunch.

I Wanted City, He Wanted Tropical, We Both Won at the Catamaran

The Catamaran is a tropical resort minutes away from all the culture and nightlife a city can offer. Not only did they get all the big things right, the resort has a dozen small ways of making your stay into a dream vacation

Not What We Expected!

We always stay in LaJolla, but traveling with parents and they wanted to try the Catamaran (Fodor choice). We were so disappointed! When we checked in to our room, it was not at all what we expected! The room was dark and dingy, there was no vanity or outlet in the bathroom! Only in the hallway with a dark light/ mirror/closet. I refused to stay in this room for the price I was paying! I asked for the manager, complained that my room was disgusting,

and they moved us after waiting another 2 hours to a nicer room (okay). We had to call and ask for soap and towels each day! The only thing they have going for them is the location. The service was extremely lousy and we opted not to eat at the hotel restaurant after my husband asked the restaurant for a coffee to go, and they indicated they were out! Many other better places to stay for the price of this hotel! We will definitely not be back!

Best Pick: Catamaran Resort

Catamaran Resort is nice place by the beach and on the bay. Try to make reservations early for good deals in the summer. July and August are the peak of the year. Rooms on the bayfront are popular for the most priced rooms at the resort. There are garden rooms for people with budget in mind. Deluxe garden rooms are popular. Be sure to know what you want to stay and for how much you want to spend. Or ask for upgrades from garden deluxe for something

better to enjoy the stay better at the resort.

Hawaiian Paradise

The Catamaran is a very tropical resort with beautiful landscaping. I stayed in one of their Bay Studio accomodations, with a kitchen, and balcony over looking the bay. Room service was prompt and excellent. The Luas was very festive and unique. I thought they only had Luas in Hawaii. You will feel your in Paradise the location is fantastic, the beaches are crowded. Other notable ammenities: swimmin pool, workout room, night club, excellent restaurant,

bar, cruises and exotic birds.
