Catamaran Resort Hotel

Fodor's Review:

Exotic macaw parrots perch in the lush lobby of this appealing hotel on Mission Bay. Tiki torches light the way through grounds thick with tropical foliage to the six two-story buildings and the 14-story high-rise. The South Seas theme continues in the room design, while the Catamaran Spa, where the almost 10,000-square-feet facilities are devoted to treatments such as Lomi Lomi massage and seaweed body wraps has an Asian decor accented by beautiful mosaics, Buddhas, and gilt ceilings. The fitness center offers sweeping views of Mission Bay's beach; yoga and Pilates take place outside on the secluded lawn. A classical or jazz pianist plays nightly at the Moray Bar; the Atoll Restaurant serves fine cuisine, but the highlight is the Sunday brunch featuring Hawaiian dancers. Among the resort's many water-oriented activities are free cruises on Mission Bay aboard the Bahia Belle stern-wheeler. Pros: Recently upgraded rooms, spa, free cruises. Cons: Not centrally located.
