It may lack the charm of some properties in this exclusive area, but this motel with studios and suites (some with spacious oceanfront balconies) gives its guests the same first-class views of La Jolla Cove at lower rates. The beach is across the street and down a short cliff, and snorkelers and divers can take advantage of lockers and outdoor showers. Continental breakfast is served on the rooftop. The underground lot is another bonus in a section of town where a parking
spot is a prime commodity.

If you can overlook the 50's decor - original art deco, velvet couches, etc.,this is the place for you. The location is why you stay there. Open the drapes and the ocean is in front of you. You can walk to the best restaurants and shopping in the area, so you really relax. The staff if wonderful and very helpful. We would love to see them update the furnishings, but then they would charge $400 for their mini-suites!Just make sure you ask for a suite
that has been redecorated.

While I appreciate very much the front desk staff's efforts to accomodate us as a walk-in, we were charged a hefty rate for the sister property Shell Beach. We got a run-down upstairs kind of beach shack overlooking the jacuzzi, filthy windows, bright lights at night, and worse, on a hot night at the coast, no air conditioning. Parking is 3 long blocks away, and, contrary to all the internet listings, we were charged $8.00 per night to park our tiny
car in their supposedly "free" area. The breakfast is nice but sparse, the staff wonderfully friendly. I would not stay there again due to price and lack of air and poor view and no balcony. We have already found a better value with all the above amenities one block away from this hotel for the same price.

We visit Southern California frequently and have stayed at La Jolla Cove Suites several times, and we think that it is fabulous. The kitchens in the rooms are very convenient. We consider ourselves high maintenance "guests" & the staff was patient & friendly. Our room had been recently renovated and was nice and fresh. My kids loved this place
