Popular among business travelers, this Hyatt is in the Golden Triangle area, about 10 minutes from the beach and the village of La Jolla. The postmodern design of architect Michael Graves's striking lobby continues in the spacious rooms, where warm cherrywood furnishings contrast with austere gray closets. Fluffy down comforters and cushy chairs and couches make you feel right at home, though, and business travelers appreciate the endless array of office and in-room services.

The hotel's four trendy eateries include Café Japengo, an award-winning sushi restaurant.

Blah rooms!

While the hotel is beautiful on the surface (lobby, bar, restaurant decor), the rooms are VERY basic, blah, boring. I was actually uncomfortable with the very scratchy, cheap seats. This hotel seems suited for business trips. Parking, about $20 a day, was unreasonable.

The Hyatt La Jolla is great at $70/night!!

Booked using priceline and was feeling good at $70/night. The $150+ they wanted to book direct would have lowered the value rating to a 2 or 3. Room was what you'd expect for a 4* hotel. Check in and out were smooth. Self parking at $14 seemed steep but better than valet would have been. Restaurants right across the street are great. We really enjoyed Cafe Japengo. Concierge did a good job recommending specifics. We'll be back.

Be prepared to Pay for Low Value

I was very dissapointed with the Hyatt LaJolla. Unlike the Fodor's billing, the down comforters and the beds are less that comfortable, the service was slow (1 employee during checkout), a mistakes on the bill with little remorse by the staff - and worst of all, you pay for every little thing. $12 fee for use of fitness center, $14/day for parking, $6 for a bottled water, $1 per phone call, etc. The lobby was very nice as are the main rooms. However,

the hotel is overpriced for the amenities and there is only a nice view of I-5 - no ocean in site. This may have turned me off for Hyatts for good!

I liked it

A little pricey but nice. The bathroom could use a little updating. Room service was good. The barbequed salmon was great. La Jolla very upper class and a hotel to match
