Fodor's Review

This sprawling South Seas–style resort has grassy open areas with palms and tiki torches; many of the rooms have water views. Oversize plantation shutters, wooden bed frames, plush bedding, and a subtle natural-color scheme lend the nicely furnished rooms a tropical vibe. Some rooms have balconies, sleeper sofas, and kitchens; the Grand Marina Suites can accommodate up to eight people in 1,000 square feet with full kitchens. Locals throng to Humphreys for the brunch,

the live music lounge, and the outdoor jazz and pop concerts from May through October.

Great Musical Escape

A ton of money has indeed been spent on this property, and it makes for a great weekend escape, especially during summer for the combined vacation, entertainment experience. The best deals are the concert, dinner, and room packages. Each summer period, from April to October, Humphreys hosts some of the most amazing outdoor, under the stars, concerts, from Devo to Tony Bennett. Mostly classic rock and folk, but fairly eclectic in entertainment.

The completely remodeled rooms are delightful: big flat screen t.v.s, comfy beds, tons of amenities, and usually a great view of either the harbor or the lush grounds. Also wonderful bike riding paths along the harbor. The dinner that is part of the package is surprisingly good, with gratuity included. It may not be best during the concert series period to stay if the plan is to go to sleep early and not to attend the concert, because, as stated above, it is an outdoor venue, and the sound of music does travel.

Not worth looking at!

This hotel is not worth looking at! We booked on the internet and looked at three different rooms when we arrived before leaving to find another hotel. It is old, dark, worn and way too expensive for what you get. The grounds are nice but the buildings need a major overhaul.

Suite Dreams...

As it was off-season, we had a great rate for a big suite (2 queen beds plus a pullout sofa bed) for 4-nights. It was chilly at Christmas time, but the jacuzzi spa was cranked up and felt wonderful. We took bikes for a ride around Shelter Island one morning (would have done this more often had the weather cooperated). One mistake we made was not having breakfast at the restaurant until the last morning! IT WAS GREAT and reasonably priced. Oh well.

The suite was totally comfortable for us (four adults). Our only complaint was that it wasn't as sound-proof as would be ideal, but fortunately our neighbors though up early were also out quickly. I'd stay here again. It is well located for touring around the San Diego area!

Come for the Shows!

We stumbled upon this hotel at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised by the courteous staff, the nice rooms and the locale. We happened to stay on a Sat. night during one of the many live concerts held on the premises. If you're not a music lover, stay away as the shows last from 6:30 - 10:30 and can be heard throughout the Inn's campus. However, guests are welcome to listen from their balconies, the pool area and or the restaurant...for

free! What a treat. Speaking of treat...no charge for parking at this Hotel. The view of the bay is great as well as the sunrises and sunsets.

Polynesian Paradise

This hotel is quiet, with beautiful landscaping in a very tropical style, surrounded on 2 sides by water, with great marina or bay views. It has a huge pool area with poolside bar and spa and ping pong table - lots of fun for the kids. There is an outdoor concert venue with about 30 shows a year, mostly jazz, blues, or over-the-hill soft rockers. Our room had a king bed, fridge, microwave, coffeemaker, nice sitting area with couch, tiny balcony overlooking

the bay. There are no sandy beaches close, and it is a little off the beaten track, but really a nice romantic or family spot. On-site restaurant, massage, free coffee in lobby, newspaper. Fitness center with great marina views. Nice little waterfalls and koi ponds where ducks swim add some atmosphere too.
