Fodor's Review:

The 1¼-mi trail through Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve passes through Engleman oak forest, native manzanita, and rolling mountain meadows to a viewpoint where the panorama extends north all the way to Palomar Mountain. On a clear day you can see Point Loma in San Diego. At the entrance you pass through gates designed by James Hubbell, a local artist known for his ironwork, wood carving, and stained glass.

  • Cost: Free
  • Open: Daily dawn-dusk
