Fodor's Review:

Built in 1897 by freed slave Albert Robinson and his wife Margaret, this more than 100-year-old hotel is Julian's only designated national landmark. Current owners Steve and Gig Ballanger brought the old place into the 21st century, but it still feels thoroughly Victorian. Smallish rooms have antique furnishings and colorful quilts. Cottage accommodations have private entrances and fireplaces. The innkeepers serve afternoon tea and invite guests to sit on the porch. Full breakfast is included. Pros: Genuine historic hotel, convivial atmosphere. Cons: Small rooms, no TV.

  • Hotel Details: 14 rooms, 2 suites
  • In-room: no phone, no TV.
  • In-hotel: Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • Rate includes: Full breakfast
  • Credit Cards: AE, MC, V
