Warm and friendly defines this boutique hotel, located on the west side of I-5, closer to the beaches than to LEGOLAND. A family-run operation, West Inn offers large, well-appointed guest rooms, all furnished with king-size beds and streamlined Arts and Crafts decor with dark hardwood floors and bead-board paneling. There are flat-screen TVs, oversize desks, large walk-in showers, and fresh orchids. The attractive pool area has a stone waterfall at one end. The inviting lobby/sitting room holds a large stone fireplace that can take the chill off a cool day. Staff is exceptionally accommodating and friendly. The inn offers shuttle services for guests within the Carlsbad area. There are two restaurants on-site, both locally popular and busy. A full buffet breakfast is included in the price, and milk and cookies are served in the lobby each night. Kids will enjoy the heated outdoor pool and playing board games in the library. Pros: Family- and pet-friendly, full breakfast, organized activities. Cons: Adjacent to railroad tracks and freeway.
