Museums / Galleries, Julian
Fodor's Review:
The rundown-looking Banner Queen Trading Post Gallery is a remnant of an old gold mine dug into a hillside on Banner Grade, 5 mi east of Julian. A step inside what was the mine superintendent's home reveals a wealth of contemporary art. Five rooms are filled with paintings, photos, sculpture, ceramics, stained glass (even some fire glass), and woven pieces by Julian artists. Prices range from $30 or less for photos and pottery to hundreds for paintings and sculptures by widely recognized artists such as James Hubbell and Bob Verdugo.
