Because of the pool's location at the tip of the La Jolla peninsula, you can actually look east for unmatched panoramic views of the coastline and ocean. This shallow cove, protected by a seawall, has small waves and no riptide. The area just outside the pool is popular with scuba divers who explore the offshore reef when the surf is calm. Groups of harbor seals hang out along the beach, claiming it as their own during the winter pupping season. Court battles are currently raging between animal protection groups and citizens who want the pinnipeds to share the sand and stop fouling the water with their waste. Most recent court ruling (March 2008): seals: 1, kids, 1, with a rematch October 2009. Get back to your corners, guys.
