Notable for such hard-to-find preparations as "balti-style" lamb (the meat is stewed in onion gravy until it shreds, then is served in a cone-shape holder), India Princess offers a menu with many well-prepared specialties. A long, narrow front room leads to the much more comfortable back room, a rather intimate cave perfumed by spicy scents, and enlivened by explosive sizzling sounds when red-hot metal platters of meats cooked in a traditional tandoor oven arrive from the kitchen. Dishes to try include the succulent lamb dumplings called nargisi kofta, sautéed shrimp jalfarezee, and the kadai chicken (cooked in a round-bottom pan like a wok). The mint paratha bread is fragrant and excellent.
