Marriott took a venerable 1928 bank building and transformed it into a Spanish-style hotel that caters to business travelers. Under a two-story painted ceiling, the marble lobby is a breathtaking architectural space where ornate, numbered teller cages still stand at check-in, separating the lobby from the Lincoln Bar. Rooms are simply furnished and serviceable. There are some Jacuzzi rooms, and the Presidential Suite has a balcony overlooking the bay. Pros: Central location, historic building, free HBO. Cons: Simple rooms, somewhat seedy area.
