The restaurant nearest the San Diego Convention Center, this handsome, 1940s-style establishment lures with thick steaks and chops, equally meaty seafood cuts such as the unusual T-bone of Alaskan halibut, richly sauced pastas, and chicken dishes of surprising flavor and sophistication. Be extravagant by opening with a shellfish platter laden with oysters, stone crab, mussels, and lobster, then move on to the $48-per-serving Alaskan king crab legs. If you're on a budget, visit at lunch or invest in a filling and rather tasty garlic meat loaf po' boy sandwich, which costs just $11.45, or the monumental cheeseburger served with a good pound of hot french fries. Either way, plan on finishing with an impressive wedge of key lime pie.
