Gable roofs, half-timber walls, and stone supports are among the noteworthy architectural elements at this sprawling inn and time-share condominium complex with direct access to the beach. Public areas, including a library furnished with overstuffed sofas and chairs, are warmed by big rock fireplaces; and you can hear the soothing sounds of a rock waterfall in the lobby. The entire facility surrounds brilliant seasonal gardens. Rooms, which range from cramped to large, are furnished Queen Anne style, with pencil-post beds and wall sconces. Many have ocean views, balconies, and kitchenettes; some also have fireplaces and hot tubs. With sprawling, landscaped grounds the inn is well equipped to accommodate families. The resort offers a schedule of activities that includes tours to Hollywood, a beach cabana fully equipped with toys in summer, and crafts classes. Pros: Walk to the beach, warm ambience. Cons: Lots of kids, on the main drag.
