Four Seasons Resort Aviara

Fodor's Review:

This hilltop resort on 30 acres offers one of the most sublime views in Southern California. Stroll out to the pool overlooking Batiquitos Lagoon, where the panorama stretches endlessly from lagoon to the Pacific. If you watch for a while you may catch sight of one of the 130 species of birds that inhabit the wetland. The quietly elegant Aviara is one of the most luxurious hotels in the San Diego area, with gleaming marble corridors, original artwork, crystal chandeliers, and enormous flower arrangements. Rooms have every possible amenity: oversize closets, private balconies or garden patios, and marble bathrooms with double vanities and deep soaking tubs. The resort is exceptionally family-friendly, providing a wide selection of in-room amenities designed for the younger set. Kids also have their own pool, plus nature walks with wildlife demonstrations. The on-site golf course is considered one of the best in California, and jazz concerts are presented on the lawn on evenings in July. Pros: Unbeatable location, fabulous service. Cons: A little stiff.
