San Diego Sights

Torrey Pines State Beach and Reserve

Torrey Pines State Beach and Reserve Review

One of San Diego's best beaches encompasses 2,000 acres of bluffs and bird-filled marshes. A network of meandering trails leads to the sandy shoreline below. Along the way enjoy the rare Torrey pine trees, found only here and on Santa Rosa Island, offshore. Guided tours of the nature preserve are offered on weekends. Torrey Pines tends to get crowded in summer, but you'll find more isolated spots heading south under the cliffs leading to Black's Beach. Best for: families, hiking, scenic views, sunbathing, swimming. Amenities: lifeguard year-round (reduced hours in winter), parking in two small lots, showers, toilets.
