La Jolla Caves
La Jolla Caves Review
It's a walk of 145 sometimes slippery steps down a tunnel to Sunny Jim, the largest of the caves in La Jolla Cove and the only one reachable by land. This is a one-of-a-kind local attraction, and worth the time if you have a day or two to really enjoy La Jolla. The man-made tunnel took two years to dig, beginning in 1902; later, a shop was built at its entrance. Today the Sunny Jim Cave Store, a throwback to that early shop, is still the entrance to the cave. The shop sells jewelry and watercolors by local artists.
