Fodor's Review:
At the Balboa Park Visitors Center in this building, you can pick up schedules and route maps for the free trams that operate around the park. You can also purchase the Best of Balboa Park Combo Pass, which affords entry to 13 museums and the zoo for $55; it's worthwhile if you want to visit more than a few museums and aren't entitled to the discounts that most give to children, senior citizens, and military personnel. In addition, you can pick up a flyer that details the excellent free park tours that depart from here (or phone for a schedule). Also note the beautiful structure itself. A late 1990s rebuilding of the 1915 original, it has won awards for its painstaking attention to historical detail; 2,000 paint scrapes were taken, for example, to get the art deco colors exactly right.
