Fodor's Review

Primarily for business travelers, this hotel between Seaport Village and the convention center is San Diego's largest, and its 33- and 40-story towers make it the West Coast's tallest waterfront hotel. Be sure to catch at least one sunset from the 40th-floor Top of the Hyatt bar. A 2012 renovation has brought the guest rooms new carpeting, bedding, and wall art that lend the property a more modern feel. All rooms have water views, windows that open, and iPod docking stations.

The outdoor pool has cabanas and fire pits. The trolley station is one block away, and the Gaslamp's clubs and restaurants are within walking distance.

Start of Our Cruise

Stayed here the night before our cruise. Lovely room and bed! The lobby is beautiful. Service very good, check-in was easy & fast. Our room was ready at 11am. Enjoyed our stay.

anything but "Grand"

While the exterior and public areas were quite 'grand' we found the room to be somewhat disappointing. The room was "tired" and in need of updating. The bathroom fixtures were older, the sink and taps worn, and the wallpaper peeling and poorly patched. We found the bed to be of mediocre comfort. It was overly firm and the sheets did not stay on particularly well. The pillows were small and not very fluffy. We were disappointed to discover that

the restaurant facilities were under construction. Although the service was excellent and the food delicious, we didn't like the fact that breakfast was only served until 10:30am in an adjacent "bar". Hyatt's website should indicate that there is construction at the restaurants and that inconveniences would be encountered. We were impressed with the friendliness of the staff and found the valet service to be particularly quick and congenial.

Steep price for the area

Just returned. Room in the newer tower was all new. Still, the air-conditioner was not working and had to be serviced. Even then, very noisy air-conditioner. Why did Hyatt choose that type? Bathroom has no exhaust nor air-conditioning, so be prepared for fogged up bathroom after a shower. The guest room doors bang loudly. Outside, you hear a train blarring its horn in the wee hours of the morning, even though I was on the top floor. Paid $289

per night.

Keyword: Grand

I have been to San Diego on three different occassions. This is by far the nicest hotel I have experienced. The hotel staff are simply fantastic. The rooms are well laid out and the views are terrific looking over the harbor. The restaurant Laels was very reasonable in price and the meals were good. I normally don't eat at hotel restaurants because I like to experience the local ambiance. The hotel is primarily for the business conference attendee,

but don't let that prevent you from staying here on your own. My wife and children enjoyed themselves as much as I did.
