We just got back from 5 days at The del Coronado. Our 1st room was absolutely claustrophobic! When we opened the shutters we were looking at a roof! My husband went to the front desk the next morning and was told there was nothing else available. He then offered to pay for the upgrade and volia a room became available. The 2nd room was more spacious very comfortable bed and more then enough bath towels. However the only place to plug in hairdryer or straightener was in the bathroom, very inconvenient and no makeup mirror. The hairdryer was horrible. We had been to Florida Disney in the spring with our grandson and stayed at the "del Coronado" resort there. Unfortunately when we stayed at the "real" del we felt like we were back in Disneyland. Lots and lots of kids running through the hallways and throwing things off balconies. The walls of the room were paper thin and we were woken up by our neighbors coming in at 1 in the morning. Trying to get to talk to the concierge was a joke they were so busy. You had to sign for your chairs and towels and pay for an umbrella on the beach.I was really disappointed. It was our 30th wedding anniversary. We had been there for our 10th anniversary and it was so nice we decided to splurge for our 30th, wasted our money! We will probably not go back and that is too sad. For what this hotel was for so many years it has now become the Disneyland resort of the West Coast.P.S. as for my comment about the children in the hotel, we have 8 of our own so we do not have a problem with children but it seems as if this once grande hotel now caters to them and that is sad.
