Fodor's Review

Chain restaurants haven't driven out all of San Diego's old-line family dining spots, and this unpretentious place, opened in 1968 on the quiet fringe of Mission Valley, remains dear to the city's heart. A traditional three-meals-daily restaurant, Ricky's serves big portions of unassuming, well-prepared, all-American cooking, like steak with all the trimmings for $16, but it's really famed for breakfast, when savory corned-beef hash and fluffy strawberry Dutch baby and oven-baked omelets are the rule. The spectacular apple pancake, a soufflé-like creation that takes 20 minutes to bake, arrives piping hot and is irresistible to the last molecule of molten cinnamon sugar. Ricky's popularity never wanes.

I am a great food buff and like to explore new dining places, so obviously I have had my share of bad experiences; but Ricky's has managed to make it to top the list in a single visit. It took forever to place my order; my frustration growing with ages for my ordered food to finally arrive. Speaking of the food, I believe it was at least a day old and was just reheated and served to me. The look of the food was bad, and it tasted funny. Never

visit the place, especially if you wish for a good experience.

Disappointing experience of my life

I dined at Ricky’s along with my wife last week. It was a very disappointing experience. The place is just average and the ‘décor’ leaves a lot to be desired. We had to wait more than 15 minutes to place our order. We ordered salmon bisque and French toast. The toast was overcooked and salmon simply awful. Our complaints about the quality of the good were also left unheard. After paying a hefty bill we left with a bad taste. We will never return

to the place ever again.

Horrible day of my life

To begin with, I didn’t like their food. They served a burnt toast to me that I am sure nobody would be able to eat unless the person had been starving for a week or so. The food quality and service were simply pathetic. Not recommended, not in another billion years.
