Our famous Baja-Style Lobster
Weekend Brunch - Chilaquiles with a Bottomless Mimosa
Seafood lovers have long flocked to Puerto Nuevo, the “lobster village” just south of San Diego in Baja California, Mexico. When a family that operates several Puerto Nuevo restaurants opened Ortega's in Hillcrest, it quickly became a top draw for authentic Baja coastal cuisine, minus the long lines to cross the border. The delicious house-made, Mexican fare stars succulent, sweet Baja-style lobster (steamed then grilled) served with beans, rice and made-to-order tortillas. At market price, it can top $35 a serving; but there are plenty less-pricy menu options, too, including two versions of tortilla soup, melt-in-your-mouth carnitas (slow-cooked pork), made-at-the-table guacamole, and Ensenada-style battered fish tacos. The pomegranate margaritas are a must, as is the special red salsa for authentic spice.
