At this colorful neighborhood cantina in Bankers Hill, classic Mexican “soul food” gets a refined spin. Everything is fresh here; the tortillas are hand-pressed from freshly ground corn and the salsas and margaritas are made from scratch. Mexican favorites, including chicken, steak, and carnitas tacos, chili rellenos, tamales, and guacamole, are served, but the menu gets interesting with dishes like shoestring plantains, salmon tacos, or soy chorizo tacos, and red pozole. Sweet endings include creamy coconut flan or flourless chocolate chipotle cake; both are muy bueno. On weekends starting at 9 am breakfasts of scrambled-egg burritos, avocado scramble, and blackberry pancakes are served.
