Windsurfing
Also known as sailboarding, windsurfing is a sport best practiced on smooth waters, such as Mission Bay or the Snug Harbor Marina at the intersection of I-5 and Tamarack Avenue in Carlsbad. More experienced windsurfers will enjoy taking a board out on the ocean. Wave jumping is especially popular at the Tourmaline Surfing Park in La Jolla and in the Del Mar area, where you can also occasionally see kiteboarders practice their variation on the theme. Sailboard rentals and instruction are available at the Bahia Resort Hotel (998 W. Mission Bay Dr., Mission Bay. 858/488-2582). The Catamaran Resort Hotel (3999 Mission Blvd., Mission Beach. 858/488-1081), a sister location of the Bahia Resort Hotel, offers similar services.
