Fodor's Review:

This state park protects hundreds of the largest and rarest living things on the planet -- magnificent giant sequoia redwood trees. Some are 3,000 years old, 90 feet around at the base, and 250 feet tall. There are campgrounds and picnic areas; swimming, wading, fishing, and sunbathing on the Stanislaus River are popular in summer.

  • Cost: $6 per vehicle, day use; campsites $20
  • Open: Park daily sunrise-sunset, day use; visitor center May-Oct., daily 11-3; Nov.-Apr., weekends 11-3
