Fodor's Review:

This state park protects hundreds of the largest and rarest living things on the planet—magnificent giant sequoia redwood trees. Some are 3,000 years old, 90 feet around at the base, and 250 feet tall. There are campgrounds and picnic areas; swimming, wading, fishing, and sunbathing on the Stanislaus River are popular in summer.

  • Cost: $6 per vehicle, day use; campsites $20
  • Open: Park daily sunrise-sunset, day use; visitor center May-Oct., daily 11-3; Nov.-Apr., weekends 11-3
