Sacramento and the Gold Country Restaurants

The Firehouse

Updated 04/30/2014

Fodor's Review

Long celebrated by locals and foodies as one of the city's top restaurants, this historic eatery has a full bar, breezy courtyard seating, and creative American cooking, such as char-grilled spring rack of lamb served with roasted French fingerling potatoes and baby artichoke and fava bean succotash. Visitors who can afford to treat themselves to a fine and leisurely meal can do no better in Old Sacramento—although they might also opt for the less-pricey Ten 22.

Located a block away and under the same ownership as the Firehouse, it serves pizza and other fancified comfort food.

Best Outdoor Dining

Fantastic venue for lunch and/or brunch outdoor dining in Sac. Love the New Orleans style courtyard--shady and cool. Easily the best wine list in Sacramento Valley. Professional staff. Use the valet parking rather than hassle with city parking.

Great Service Unfortunately Foor Wasn't

Ate at the bar. Bartender knew her wines. She was congenial, and provided great service. My impression was servers were extraordinarily professional and knowledgeable about both the food and wines they served. Unfortunately dock spring roll was fried mass, not discernible what was in it. Pork chop was good, sauce ok, potatoes pedestrian. Overall I would much rather go back to the Waterboy than return to the Firehouse. If you are over 60 and like

staid environment, with less excitement in the food this might be your cup of tea.

A Hot Time at the Firehouse!!

A wonderful dining experience. We took some friends from the Bay Area and they raved about the food, service and atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves and my friends plan to join us again soon. They think it easily ranks among the best in San Fran.
