Le Bilig French Café

Le Bilig French Café Review

Simple and elegant cuisine is the chef's goal at this country-French café on the outskirts of Auburn. Recently, Le Belig added a drive-through window. Fast fare includes croque monsieurs, crepes, and French dogs (hot dogs on baguettes with Dijon mustard); slower and more intricate meals are served inside.

I had heard about how wonderful this restaurant was from many people. It is true that they serve many authentic french dishes you won't find too many other places. It is true that the service is very french (read:slow), which is great for a leisurely dinner. However, "leisurely" should not be confused with "relaxed", which it was definitely not. It is a very small space, and it was noisy, and cramped. It was difficult to have a conversation with my dinner partner without speaking loudly to be heard. It was not the romantic evening we had envisioned. All the food was over-salted, from the appetizer to the main course. I have been to France 5 times and I don't recall the food being highly salted. Taking into consideration the atmosphere and the food, I thought the prices were high. The portion size was perfect, and I don't mind spending that kind of money, but not for what we found at Le Belig.
