Davis began as a rich agricultural area and remains one, but it doesn't feel like a cow town. It's home to the University of California at Davis, whose 35,000-plus students hang at downtown caf├ęs, galleries, and bookstores (most of the action takes place between 1st and 4th and C and G streets), lending the city a decidedly college-town feel.
