An old stone tower at Big Pines Visitor Center, part of Angeles National Forest, marks the highest spot (6,862 feet) along the San Andreas Fault, the unstable crack in the earth's crust that has caused so many California earthquakes. At the visitor center you can get information on camping, fishing, and hiking in the forest; buy souvenirs; and get the National Forest Adventure passes ($5 per vehicle per day) that allow you access to the forest.
