Inland Empire residents no longer have to travel to their big-sister communities of L.A. or Orange County for a good meal. Downtown Riverside is home to some ambitious restaurants, along with the chains you'll find in most areas. The college towns of Claremont and Redlands are great showcases for creative vegetarian cuisine. In Temecula, the choices expand to wine-country cooking, with many vintners showcasing their products alongside California-French dishes. Your options are limited in the smaller mountain communities; typically each town supports a single upscale restaurant, along with fast-food outlets, steak-and-potatoes family spots, and perhaps an Italian or Mexican eatery.
