Chef Felipe Castañeda opened his second Mexican restaurant at the north end of Palm Springs in 2011—he's been serving overflow crowds for years at a simple café at the other end of town. His latest venture, within the Los Arboles Hotel, which he owns, is outside on a charming patio set amid flower gardens and shaded by red umbrellas. Castañeda prepares classic combinations of tacos, tamales, and enchiladas, along with specialties such as double-cooked pork and chicharrones (fried pork rinds) with tomatillo salsa. Vegetarian offerings include delightfully delicate spinach enchiladas.
