The Willows Historic Palm Springs Inn

Why We Like It

The Willows puts a wonderful emphasis on privacy and the design touches inspire gentle romance. Icons like Albert Einstein and Clark Gable have both stayed here, and it’s definitely the place for those who appreciate the finer things in life and want a quiet, semi-secluded getaway.

Fodor's Expert Review

This historic bed and breakfast, housed in a grand old mansion, boats a three-course breakfast and oozes the luxury of old Hollywood. The word oasis gets tossed around a lot in the desert, but the location of The Willows, where the street dead-ends into a private drive, feels pretty exclusive. The Palm Springs Art Museum and downtown Palm Springs are literally right up the street.

You Should Know Unlike most properties at this level, The Willows does not charge a resort fee, so the price you see (aside from taxes) is what you can expect.

Room

The eight boutique rooms are named for historic figures who have stayed at The Willows in the past, like Albert Einstein and actress Marion Davies. The rustic, marled wood furnishings and hardwood floors exude a classic elegance. Desks are ornate, balconies and terraces are private, and antique pieces are heirloom quality.

Bathroom

The sophistication continues to the bathroom, where guests can wrap themselves in plush robes and towels after stepping out of the oversized showers or clawfoot tubs.

Lobby

The lobby straddles the play between indoor and outdoor space, with seating for lounging, a terrace with fountain, and a veranda that overlooks a spectacular waterfall.

Pool

Both the pool and hot tub are heated and surrounded by the gorgeous building, expansive stone walls, and lush palm trees and bougainvillea.

Dining

The dining room is just glorious, looking out onto the arresting waterfall. Guests will find a daily three-course breakfast here, as well as an evening reception with wine and hors d'oeuvres.

Bars

It’s a fun and casual night when you grab a beer or glass of wine at Dead or Alive (6-minute drive), named for a game where patrons guess whether or not a celebrity is still among the land of the living). For swanky cocktails, it’s worth a visit to survey the menus and taste drinks at both Truss + Twine (6-minute drive) and Seymour’s (7-minute drive).
