Salton Sea State Recreation Area

Salton Sea State Recreation Area Review

On the north shore of the sea, this huge recreation area draws thousands each year to its playgrounds, hiking trails, fishing spots, and boat launches. Ranger guided bird walks are offered on Saturdays; you'll see migrating and native birds inlcuding Canada geese, pelicans, and shorbirds. The park also offer free kayak tours of the sea on Sundays. The Headquarters Visitor Center contains exhibits and shows a short film on the history of the Salton Sea. Unfortunately, because of budget cuts, this park is slated to close in 2012. Call ahead for updates.
