Golf in Borrego Springs

Borrego Springs Resort & Spa Country Club. The 18 holes of golf at this resort and country club are open to the public. Formerly part of a trio of three 9-hole courses (one has since closed), the remaining two, Mesquite and Desert Willow, are generally played as an 18-hole round by most golfers, starting with Mesquite. Both courses have natural desert landscaping and mature date palms. 1112 Tilting T Dr., Borrego Springs, CA, 92004. 760/767–5700. From $30. 18 holes, 6760 yards, par 71.

RoadRunner Golf and Country Club. Adjacent to the Springs at Borrego course and with some shared facilities, this club has an 18-hole course par-3 golf course. Though the course has views of the Santa Rosa, San Ysidro, and Vallecito Mountains and Indian Head Mountain, the terrain is relatively flat. Another bonus: there's rarely a wait for a tee time. 1010 Palm Canyon Dr., Borrego Springs, CA, 92004. 760/767–5373. $35. 18 holes, 2451 yards, par 54.

The Springs at Borrego. Part of a luxurious RV-park complex, this public golf course has 9 holes that can be configured to play as 18. The tight course, designed by David Pfaff, has narrow fairways and a series of challenging traps and bunkers. The course closes for the summer. 2255 DiGiorgio Rd., Borrego Springs, CA, 92004. 760/767–0004. $45 for 18 holes. 9 holes, 3084 yards, par 36.

The owners also provide a B&B experience in a ranch house—with a full-day horseback ride and meals included—for $650 for two nights (no credit cards accepted). 302 Palm Canyon Dr., Borrego Springs, CA, 92004. 760/207–1427.
