This tranquil inn, just steps from busy El Paseo, is a 1940s motel that's been transformed into a retro urban oasis. Rooms surround a landscaped courtyard, where a small stream and pond are shaded by mature trees bearing oranges and grapefruit. Large rooms are furnished with Moderne reproductions of 1940s chairs, armoires, and tables. Refrigerators come stocked with bottles of Nehi sodas, and there's a video library of vintage films. All rooms have outdoor sitting areas appointed with director's chairs. In-room spa services are available. Pros: Located on a quiet street, fresh fruit to pick, congenial ambiance. Cons: Limited amenities and facilities, bright orange decor.
