Dining in the desert is casual and low-key. Expect to find many good, but not stellar, dining experiences. Celebrity chefs are rare. Fare, once limited to Italian and a smattering of French choices, now includes fresh seafood, contemporary Californian, Asian, vegetarian, and steaks. You can find Mexican food everywhere; in the smaller communities, it may be your best choice. Restaurants that remain open in July and August frequently discount deeply, so you might be able to splurge on an expensive meal even if you're on a tight budget. Others close in July and August or offer limited service.
