Joshua Tree Picnic Areas

Joshua Tree Picnic Areas

Black Rock Canyon. Set among Joshua trees, pinyon pines, and junipers, this popular picnic area has barbecue grills and drinking water. It's one of the few with flush toilets. End of Joshua Lane at the Black Rock Canyon Campground.

Cottonwood Spring. Shady trees make this a pleasant place to picnic. It has drinking water and restrooms with flush toilets. On Pinto Basin Rd., adjacent to visitor center.

Covington Flats. This is a great place to get away from crowds. There's just one table, and it's surrounded by flat open desert dotted here and there by Joshua trees. La Contenta Rd., 10 mi from Rte. 62.

Hidden Valley. Set among huge rock formations, with picnic tables shaded by dense trees, this is one of the most pleasant places in the park to stop for lunch. Park Blvd., 14 mi south of the West Entrance.

Indian Cove. The view here is rock formations that draw thousands of climbers to the park each year. This isolated area is reached via Twentynine Palms Highway. End of Indian Cove Rd.

Live Oak Springs. Tucked among piles of boulders, this picnic area in the midst of interesting rock formations is near a stand of Joshua trees. Park Blvd., east of Jumbo Rocks.
