Disney's Grand Californian

$$$$, Disneyland Resort

User Rating: ** 2.4

Fodor's Review:

The newest of Disney's Anaheim hotels, this Craftsman-style luxury property has guest rooms with views of the California Adventure park and Downtown Disney. They don't push the Disney brand too heavily; rooms are done in dark woods with amber-shaded lamps and just a small Bambi image on the shower curtain. Restaurants include the Napa Rose dining room and Storytellers Cafe, where Disney characters entertain children at breakfast. Of the three pools, the one shaped like Mickey Mouse is just for kids, plus there's an evening child activity center and portable cribs in every room. Room-and-ticket packages are available; the hotel has its own entry gate to California Adventure. The new Mandara spa has a couple's suite with Balinese-inspired art and textiles.

Grand Prices, Economy Service

Posted by The_Marshalls from London, England on 3/16/07

At $400 a night you expect something special, but the Californian Grand delivers motel standard service at a Four Seasons price. Having queued for over fifteen minutes to register (fair enough in a budget hotel...but not at this price...) we then had to wait 45 minutes for our bags to be delivered to our room - and we couldn't leave the room as we HAD to be in the room when they were delivered...and they lost one of the bags for a couple of hours. The room wasn't bad - big, great bed, small balcony. Before they'll give you the name of their preferred baby sitting service, you have to sign a waiver (holding Disney Corp harmlessfrom any liability from anything - not just babysitting referrals). Its not all bad - service is friendly and the lobby area and pool live up to the title"Grand". Unless close proximity to the Parks is important, you're better off doing some research and finding a better and cheaper hotel nearby.
