The design of this handsome property, which sprawls along the PCH and incorporates courtyards with fountains and firepots, is a nod to California's Mission period. Nearly all of the spacious rooms offer ocean views and private balconies or terraces. Beach-themed artwork by local artists enhances guest rooms and public spaces. This Hyatt aims to create a village atmosphere, with expansive common grounds and an inviting shopping area, and to a large extent it has succeeded. Beach access is via a bridge over the PCH. Pros : close to beach; responsive staff; family-friendly. Cons : some partial ocean-view rooms are disappointing; pesky resort and daily valet fees.
