Montage Laguna Beach Review

Laguna's connection to the Californian plein air artists is mined for inspiration at this head-turning, lavish hotel. The Montage uses the local Craftsman style as a touchstone. Shingled buildings ease down a bluff to a sandy cove; inside, works by contemporary and early-20th-century California artists snare your attention. Guest rooms balance ease and refinement; all have ocean views and amenities such as CD/DVD players and extra-deep tubs. Of the restaurants, Studio is the fanciest, with more sweeping Pacific views and a refined contemporary menu. At the 20,000-square-foot oceanfront spa and fitness center, you can indulge in a sea-salt scrub, take a yoga class, or hit the lap pool. Pros : top-notch service; idyllic coastal location; special programs for all interests, from art to marine biology. Cons : pricey; food inconsistent given the prices.

You know that scene in Pretty Woman where Richard Gere says, "We need a little more sucking up over there"? Well, there is no need for that statement at Montage. "Absolutely!" is their answer to any request. You are paying top dollar for everything, so enthusiastic service should go with the package. If you are not 100% happy, let anyone know your slightest need, & they will make it happen for you. I forgot my sunglasses in the room, and they volunteered to send security to get them for me. I took advantage of that offer.
The Fitness Center is included... but the spa locker room, sauna, steam room is supposedly only available with a 60 minute service. They can be (and SHOULD be at these prices) persuaded to change their mind on that.
Keep in mind that you will be spending @$100 for breakfast for two, more for lunch, and much more for dinner if you eat at the hotel. The rooms are lovely -- all are the same -- only the view is slightly different. I do not know if it is worth $100 more a night for Ocean Surf room. The spa treatments are the most expensive I have ever seen anywhere in the world. I didn't have one. I mean, how good can a facial be? If you are in the money, go here for a fabulous experience. My husband and I celebrated an important bday, and we had a terrific time.

We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary night here on Dec. 5th last year. All I can say is "WOW" this place is truly stunning and amazing. The property is situated in a gorgeous setting, steps lead down to the ocean where we enjoyed sunning and relaxing. The room was very nicely appointed and the bathroom was very nice with a soaking tub, full bath amenities and music piped into the bath, candles are also provided and a nice loofah.
We dined at The Studio which was perfect and the next morning at The Loft for breakfast. I had a hair appointment at the salon there with a very good stylist. She gave me some Sparkling Wine when my haircut was finished was very nice. She also offered me Champagne when I arrived for my style.
The pool area is stunning, the service first-class. It was a night I will always remember and I hope we can return again sometime.
