Hotel Metropole and Market Place
Hotel Metropole and Market Place Review
This romantic hotel evokes the former look of New Orleans's French Quarter. Some guest rooms have balconies overlooking a flower-filled courtyard holding restaurants and shops; others have ocean views. Many have fireplaces. Room 102, an oceanfront suite with vaulted ceilings and lavish bath, is a pricey indulgence. For a stunning panorama, head for the rooftop deck. Pros : family-friendly; outdoor Jacuzzi and sundeck; convenient location. Cons : some rooms on small side; nearby grocery store deliveries make some rooms noisy in morning.

Surfergirl, from Los Angeles
We've stayed at this hotel at least 10 times, and have been in different rooms each time. Clearly, room location is important, and the higher up, the better. Most rooms overlook the courtyard, since the hotel was built in an L shape around the courtyard of little shops. It now resembles more of a horseshoe since the take over of the Parrot restaurant along Crescent Ave. and change of that space into condo-style apartments with bay views. Different price points for different rooms and amenities. The rooms are decent, but do have that upscale motel flavor about them. Some have spa tubs. Toiletries and linens decent. Excellent a/c. We haven't been in the new condo style rooms, which look anything but motel-like, nor have we booked the "beach shack" which encompasses the entire second floor over a group of shops. The beach shack looks extremely inviting, since it is a 2 bedroom cottage and has a large deck surrounding it. Really enjoy the outdoor spa that overlooks the courtyard and the bay.
What's nice about the Hotel Metropole is the morning continental breakfast served by the lobby (you can take your food and beverage on trays back to your room or eat in the lobby), and its location right on Crescent and Metropole. There's a place at the hotel where they hold your beach stuff, like umbrellas, snorkel equipment, beach chairs, and the like, and they also have a limited amount of supplies (like beach chairs) that they will provide on a first come basis. They also allow you to check out beach towels to take with you to lounge on the small beach that lines the bay.
Nice people run the place, and they used to give small discounts to return patrons.
All in all, a nice, friendly experience.
