With its singularly ornate Cape (as in Cape of Good Hope) Dutch style of the 17th century, this winery owned by the Terlato family strikes an unconventional pose amid the austere Stags Leap landscape. The iconoclastic approach also plays out in the flagship Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District wine, which is softer and suppler than most of its local counterparts. Chimney Rock is also known for its Bordeaux-style blend and several single-vineyard, estate-grown Cabernets. Whites include Sauvignon Gris—the grape is a clone of Sauvignon Blanc. The tasting room's decor complements the exterior, with high, wood-beamed ceilings and a fireplace that warms things up in winter. Tours are by appointment, but walk-ins are welcome as space permits.
