Jack London State Historic Park

Jack London State Historic Park Review

The pleasures are both pastoral and intellectual at the beloved former ranch of the late author Jack London. You could easily spend the afternoon hiking along the edge of vineyards and through stands of oaks. Several manuscripts and a handful of personal effects are on view at the House of Happy Walls Museum, which provides a tantalizing overview of the author's life and literary passions. A short hike away lie the ruins of Wolf House, which mysteriously burned down just before the writer was to move in. Also open to the public are a few restored farm outbuildings and the Cottage, a wood-framed building where he penned many of his later works. London is buried on the property.
