Fodor's Review

The influential André Tchelistcheff (1901–1994), who helped define the California style of wine making, worked his magic here for many years. BV, founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour and his wife, Fernande, is known for its widely distributed chardonnay, pinot noir, and cabernet sauvignon wines, but many others are produced in small lots and are available only at the winery. The most famous of the small-lot wines is the flagship Georges De Latour cabernet sauvignon,

first crafted by Tchelistcheff himself in the late 1930s. The historic tour ($35) includes a peek at Prohibition-era artifacts and tastes of finished wines and ones still aging in their barrels.

Tremendous wine, great education

This is not the place to tour as the winery is under construction (4/2005)... but the wines are some of the best in Napa. Make reservations for Reserve tastings and you'll get some of the best education on the genius Latour.
