Domaine Chandon Review

On a knoll shaded by ancient oak trees, this French-owned winery west of downtown claims one of Yountville's prime pieces of real estate. Basic tours of the sleek, modern facilities ($15) don't include a tasting, but other tours ($36–$42) focusing on topics ranging from food-and-wine pairing to sparkling-wine production end with a seated tasting. The top-quality sparklers are made using the laborious méthode champenoise. For the complete experience, order hors d'oeuvres to accompany the wines in the tasting room. Although Chandon is best known for its bubblies, the Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier still wines are also worth a try. The tasting lounge is restricted to those 21 years or older, but guests with children are welcome on the outdoor terrace.
