The late Rodney Strong was among the first winemakers to plant Pinot Noir grapes in the Russian River Valley; his namesake winery still makes Pinot Noirs, but it's best known for Cabernet Sauvignon–based wines. The headliners include the Bordeaux-style blend Symmetry and three single-vineyard Alexander Valley Cabernets: Alexander's Crown, Rockaway, and Brothers Ridge. You can sample Cabs and Pinots—along with Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Malbec, Zinfandel, and other
wines—in the attractive octagonal tasting room. A self-guided tour provides a good view of the fermentation tanks and other machinery, as do twice-daily guided tours. The winery hosts outdoor jazz and rock concerts during summer.
