Etude Wines Review

The well-conceived wine and food seminars are a big draw, but perhaps the most seductive part of a visit to Etude is tasting the suave Pinot Noirs. Though the handsome, modern winery is in Napa County, its flagship Carneros Estate Pinot Noir comes from grapes grown in the Sonoma County portion of Los Carneros, as does the rarer Heirloom Carneros Pinot Noir. Both are gentle, sophisticated wines whose smooth tannins linger on the palate. Pinot Noir accounts for much of Etude's production, but the winery also makes Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a few other wines. Some of them are paired with small bites of food at informative tasting seminars ($35). Don't leave without stopping to survey the landscape. You're apt to see (or hear) geese, hawks, egrets, and other wildlife.
