Fodor's Southern California 2014
Trefethen Family Vineyards
Trefethen Family Vineyards Review
This winery makes superb Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir—if you'd like to find out for yourself how well they age, pay for the reserve tasting, which includes pours of limited-release wines and one or two of the older vintages. The big terra-cotta-colored building where tastings take place is a remnant of the old Eshcol Winery, built in 1886. It's the only three-story gravity-flow winery built from wood remaining in Napa (others are made from stone, which has weathered the last century much better). There's a cork tree planted in the garden outside the tasting room—so that's what the stuff looks like before it ends up on the sharp end of the corkscrew.
